Saving Your Photos
It is important to save a copy of your edited file in case you later decide you want the original back. It is also a good idea to have a copy of the photo BEFORE you start editing incase you accidentally hit Ctrl+S half way through your editing, thus permanently altering your original photo. I think most people have done this on auto pilot, so it is good to have a backup. You might like to Save As, then add a letter a or b or c to the end of the file name. This way when you sort your photos alphabetically you can see how each of the modifications look next to each other before deciding on the best one. Also be aware that the saving of a picture to a smaller JPEG file for a website for example, you do run the risk of saving a lower quality image over the original. Solution? always make a copy!
Copyrighting your pictures
Some programs allow you to edit the photo tag information adding the photographers name and copyright notice embedded into the photograph. Most people won't know where to find this information however, so you may want to place a watermark over the image so that everyone knows that a) you took it, and or b) it is your copyright. If you start putting your pictures on the web you definitely want to consider this if you want to avoid people pinching your amazing pictures. If you WANT people to use your pictures for anything they want, you can also state that they are in the public domain and therefore there is no copyright restrictions as such.
