Levels, Shadows and Highlights
This is used to bring out the darker bits of your photo or reduce the brightness of the over exposed bits. Levels lets you set the dynamic range boundaries for each colour as well as the midpoint. It is hard to explain how this works and is best if you try mucking around with a few photos to get a feel for these tools. Try not to take them too far however otherwise your profile shots may suffer from 'clay face' or simply look un natural.
